Pakistan is the 5th largest mango (Mangifera indica L.) producer in the world. Mango is the second largest produced fruit of Pakistan after citrus. Punjab and Sindh are the major mango growing provinces of the country. Mango is cultivated in February or in early March. The peak mango harvesting months are June and July. More than 200 varieties of mango are cultivated in Pakistan. Sindhri and Chaunsa are the most famous varieties in the country and also for export. Breeding has not been effectively manipulated in the distant past. Present mango cultivars are generally the result of selections from open pollinated chance seedlings of local and introduced germplasm. In order to boost local industry, development of mango hybrid remained a major focus. The yield of mango is very low in Pakistan primarily because of inadequate and unbalanced fertilization, high water table and salinity, and lack of adequate plant protection measures. A variety of fungal diseases namely malformation, quick decline and anthracnose are the major threat to mangoes orchards in Pakistan. Mealybug (Drosicha mangiferae) is the most destructive pest of mango. Being one of the leading mango exporters in the world, Pakistan exports 7–10% of its total production valued at around US$ 20 million per year. Pakistan mainly export mango to Dubai, Iran, China and Europe.
